​B I O G R A P H Y

Mohan Rangan and Ravi Kiran were initiated into flute by their father Sri H. D. Govindaraj at a very young age.  With formal training under well known Sri S.A Sashidhar, Mohan Rangan and Ravi Kiran continued their advanced coaching under the expert guidance of Sangeetha Kalaratna Professor H.V. Krishnamurthy, principal of Vijaya College of Music.  Mohan Rangan and Ravi Kiran rapidly grew in their music career  and were the only carnatic flute duet in Karnataka for many years.  Having performed in prestigious sabhas such as the Bangalore Gayana Samaja and the Karnataka Gana Kala Parishath, they won many accolades such as the T. R Mahalingam "Best Artiste Prize".


As a first rank holder in the senior music board exam, Mohan was invited to perform for Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi  as a part of  100 member orchestra with music directed by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.  The brothers  were specially invited to play for a cultural event arranged for Dr. Abdul Kalam. There Dr. Kalam praised the youngsters and  requested the  duet  to play  "endaro mahAnubhAvulu". 

Prominent critics from The Hindu, Deccan and Sruthi Magazine recognized the brothers as having "regaled the audience with their melodious flute duet.”  Their concerts received many rave reviews such as  “neat swaraprasthara” and “accuracy in the form of ragas”. 

Mohan Rangan and Ravi Kiran were fortunate to have many senior musicians including Sri K.V. Narayanaswamy acknowledge  Mohan Rangan’s and Ravi Kiran’s innate talent for manodharma based music. 

Mohan Rangan and Ravi Kiran have performed at prestigious sabhas in both  Chennai and Bangalore including Narada Gana Sabha, Nada Inbam, Krishna Gana Sabha where they received the “Best Concert” award. 

Ravi, also part of a well known  violin venu veena trio, was recently honored by HAMSA Academy for "excellence in the field of carnatic music". He has  performed throughout India with many senior percussion artists such as , Sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman,   Sri Mannargudi Eashwaran, Sri Srimushnam Raja Rao, Sri Gurvayur Dorai, Sri Thiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam and Sri Neyveli Narayanan.  

Mohan and Ravi, while software engineers by profession, enjoy sharing their talents with discerning audiences and teaching enthusiastic youngsters.
